It all began with a dream… to build a school

Victoria Lwanga Lukwago lives with her husband Stephen in a small rural village in Uganda.

Victoria realised that the only route out of the devastating poverty she saw all around her was to provide children with the opportunity to be educated. Many of the children had watched their parents die of malnutrition, malaria or AIDS. The children had no hope and no future. It was a struggle to stay alive.

Today there is a primary school and nursery school for 180 children, including about 70 school boarders. These children have no family to care for them.

The students have a morning drink of milky porridge and a school dinner every day. Most of the food is produced from the vegetable garden and the small farm where there are cows, goats and pigs. The children are taught to grow food and manage livestock so that they will always be able to support themselves.

The school has a Sick Bay with a nurse visiting three times a week.

The children love visitors and many friends and groups of young people have come to help. Skilled craftsmen have worked hard to build and improve the facilities and provide light, power and running water.
